Our mandate is to co-ordinate substance use prevention initiatives (including crime prevention and road user safety), enhance communication between local substance abuse prevention programs and initiatives, and increase effective communication with external organizations (e.g. local school boards).

The functions of the committee include planning, implementing, and evaluating substance use prevention activities. The current focus of the committee is producing and disseminating the DVD “The Ripple Effect” which is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2005.

Membership:

Our partners are stakeholders in the Grand River District with an interest in preventing substance use and increasing community awareness of related issues.

The Ripple Effect:

Goal: To increase awareness and provide harm reduction strategies to reduce alcohol and drug related crimes, risks, injuries and deaths associated with youth oriented events such as proms, grads, and private house or bush parties.

Assembly Objective: To increase awareness of potential drug and alcohol related risks, including crime prevention and road user safety, and to provide strategies to reduce or eliminate those risks.
